Reserves

Guidelines for submitting material to be placed in the Reserve Collection in Crumb Library or Crane Library

  • To place items on reserve, submit a Course Reserves Form for both Library materials and/or personal items.  Personal items will need to be processed with barcode and call number labels or copyright notification.  Forms are also available at the Circulation Desks in Crumb and Crane Libraries.
    • How to submit a form:
      • Download and save a copy of the Course Reserves Form. Sample file name: Reserve Form- Smith- MUCP358- 2009
      • Follow form instructions and fill out the form.
      • Ctrl+Click the Submit to Crumb Reserves or Submit to Crane Reserves link. (Auto-opens email program and addresses recipient and subject fields.)
      • Attach the completed reserve form to the e-mail.
      • Send e-mail.  (Please allow 72 hrs for processing.)

  • Material submitted to be placed on reserve will be available to students within 72 hours.  All reserve material is processed in the order in which it is received. Whenever possible, please submit your reserve requests before the beginning of the semester.

  • If the material you wish to place on reserve is located in our collections, we will retrieve it.  Please be sure to submit your request before reading lists are provided to students. If an item is currently loaned, it may take up to three weeks for it to be available for reserve use.

  • To assist your students with locating reserve readings, please list the material on the form as it is listed in the course syllabus. You are encouraged to provide Reserve staff with a syllabus for their reference.

  • Patrons may locate specific reserve materials by searching the Course Reserve section of our online catalog, BearCat, in a variety of ways including by course number, name, instructor name, or title of the item. You may search the catalog at any time to verify availability of material.

  • Material submitted for reserve must meet the requirements of the Copyright Law and Guidelines. Material requiring copyright permission may not be placed on reserve until permission is received. The individual instructor is responsible for obtaining copyright permission when necessary. Please ask staff for information on how to obtain permission. See the document Copyright Guidelines for more information.

  • The number of copies of any one item placed on reserve will be determined by staff based on factors including the number of students in the class, the length of the item, and timeliness of the request.

  • An article obtained through InterLibrary Loan for personal research may not subsequently be placed on Reserve. Due to loan period restrictions, books obtained through InterLibrary Loan cannot be held on reserve for an entire semester.

  • Copies of articles that have been on reserve in previous semesters cannot be placed on reserve again without permission from the copyright holder.

  • Grouping articles together under a generic title is considered an anthology and requires the permission of all copyright holders.
