Noise Policy
In order to foster academic work, we recognize that the use of the library by patrons includes the need for individual study, quiet conversation, collaboration and instruction.
Patrons and staff should refrain from loud or disruptive conversation or other noisy behavior in any area of the library. Activity should be governed by common sense and courtesy for others.
These principles also apply to the use of electronic devices - computers, audio visual equipment and personal audio devices should be used with headphones and at low volume. Ringers on cell phones and pagers should be turned off in the library and use limited to areas as designated in each library.
Crumb Library
Periodically College Libraries hosts events in support of the academic mission in the lobby area of Crumb Library. Information about the event including the time will be posted in advance.
To facilitate use of our shared space, conversation is not permitted in designated SILENT STUDY zones. Quiet conversation is appropriate in designated GROUP STUDY zones, the lobby or Minerva's Café.
Cell phones should be used only in areas where quiet conversation is appropriate.
Crane Library
Quiet conversation is permitted on the north side, which is designated as the listening side of the Crane Library, and in group study areas which are the seminar room and the listening rooms. Patrons that need to engage in more open conversation should do so in other areas within the Crane Complex.
Cell phones are to be used outside the Crane Library, such as in the hallway preceding the entrance to the library.
