MultiSearch
What is MultiSearch? |
| MultiSearch technology allows you to do a basic search across multiple databases. The results that display are up to 20 hits in each of the included databases - arranged by date with the newest ones first. More than 100 different databases are available through SUNY Potsdam Libraries. They contain a wide variety of resources including articles (popular and scholarly) newspapers, art works, encyclopedias, music, and more. These are mostly NOT available through a Google or Yahoo search. MultiSearch lets you search many of these library databases with a single search. You save time. |
Kinds of MultiSearch:
|
- "Library MultiSearch" - on the homepage - searches 7 databases that have been pre-selected. Currently, these databases are: BearCat - the library online catalog, five general purpose article databases, and one database of government information sources.
- "MultiSearch Advanced" - goes to a page that lets you select from some subject-specific database groupings. Check the box or boxes for the most relevant subjects, enter your search term(s), and click "Search."
- For all "MultiSearches" - the default search is for words in the TITLE. That can be changed by selecting from the drop-down box. Because databases vary in how they are structured, some types of searches may fail in some databases.
- "Search by database" - on the Advanced page, this option lets you form your own group of databases by selecting from the complete alphabetical list of databases.
